Community Renewal in Loganlea
Community Renewal began in Loganlea in December 1998. Loganlea joined the renewal areas of Marsden/Crestmead, Kingston and Woodridge to form the Logan renewal zone. Renewal activities will occur across the Logan zone until 30 June 2009.
Achievements
Some of the many Community Renewal projects delivered in Loganlea include:
- Construction of the Gould Adams Park Aquatic and Community Centre, including a 25-metre heated pool, a small splash pool for children, a hydrotherapy pool and a community centre with function rooms, offices and a computer centre. This is a joint project with the Kingston Community Renewal area.
- The Befriender Program in which 17 volunteers were trained as ‘befrienders’ to teach families positive parenting skills and to give parents information, tools and support, both in person and with ongoing telephone contact.
- The Loganlea Community Centre was extended to include a relocatable building and improvements to the current building. This project aimed to maximise the use and effectiveness of the centre by providing much-needed extra space for meetings, courses and networking.
What’s happening now
The Queensland Government extended Community Renewal in Loganlea for a further five years from 1 July 2004. Residents, government, community and business are working together to develop a Renewal Zone Plan, which will be a blueprint for Community Renewal activities in the Logan zone.

About Loganlea
The Logan area was originally inhabited by Indigenous peoples from the Yugambeh and Jaggera language groups. Loganlea is one of many areas in South East Queensland named after Captain Patrick Logan, Commandant of the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement from 1825 to 1830. Early industries included cotton, sugar and dairy farming. It was not until the 1970s that housing estates were established in Loganlea.
Australian Bureau of Statistics 2001 Census figures show the Loganlea renewal area has a population of 5,008 with 1,308 families. Over one quarter (27.7 percent) are aged under 15 and 26.3 percent were born overseas. About 7.7 percent speak languages other than English and the Indigenous population is three percent.
