About Eagleby

According to local Indigenous folklore, Eagleby was named when an early European settler noticed an eagle’s nest at the intersection of the Albert and Logan Rivers. The settler asked an elderly Aboriginal man what his people called the bird and he replied ‘Eagle be Motchya’. The name was later shortened to Eagleby. Eagleby is located approximately 13km inland from Moreton Bay at the northern most point of the Gold Coast shire.

Australian Bureau of Statistics 2001 Census figures show the Eagleby renewal area has a population of 7,692 with 2,176 families. Over one quarter (26.7 percent) are aged under 15 and 25.5 percent were born overseas. About 6.4 percent speak languages other than English and the Indigenous population is 4.5 percent.
