Community Renewal in Acacia Ridge

Community Renewal began in Acacia Ridge on 1 July 2004. Acacia Ridge, together with households in adjacent areas, forms the Brisbane South renewal zone. Renewal activities will occur across the Brisbane South zone until 30 June 2009.

What’s happening now

Residents, government, community and business are working together to develop a Renewal Zone Plan, which will be a blueprint for Community Renewal activities in the Brisbane South zone.

Round the Ridge

Round the Ridge is an innovative project containing community stories, events, news and information from Acacia Ridge and Algester.

About Acacia Ridge

Acacia Ridge was named after the native wattle trees which covered the area’s natural ridge. The area was originally used by the Yerongpan clan of Oxley Creek, Aboriginal people who spoke the Yaggera dialect of the Turrbal language. The establishment of a major industrial estate in 1967 provided employment to many post-war migrants.

Australian Bureau of Statistics 2001 Census figures show the Acacia Ridge renewal area has a population of 8,892 with 2,355 families. Over one fifth (23 percent) are aged under 15 and 27.7 percent were born overseas. About 17.8 percent speak languages other than English and the Indigenous population is about five percent.
