Minister’s message
The Queensland Government is committed to engaging communities in government decisions and processes and is working in partnership with communities around the State to realise this.
With regional sittings of Parliament, Community Cabinets, Ministerial Regional Government Forums and online consultation, the Government is creating more opportunities for communities to get involved in government decision-making.
The Department of Housing’s Community Renewal program is another key mechanism for giving people a say in the decisions which directly affect their communities. Through Community Renewal, the Government is working with Queenslanders from selected communities to improve people's quality of life. This major initiative helps residents join in local planning and decision-making processes and works across all levels of government to improve responsiveness to community needs.
Since 1998, Community Renewal has worked in partnership with residents in 23 urban, regional and remote communities throughout the State. From early childhood literacy programs to health outreach workers, and from job training schemes to youth centres, Community Renewal has delivered projects of lasting benefit.
The Community Renewal program works because of the energetic and enthusiastic participation of community members. On this website, you can find out what is happening in your local area and how you can get involved. Your contribution will support the ongoing success of the program.
